Sleepy

Well, Its 5 am, Jasper is having trouble sleeping, so I sit in my living room rocking him to sleep with my foot and browsing the internet. Its really amazing how little sleep one can operate on and still live. Of course Jen has really taken the brunt of the sleep deprivation, but I remember a time not too long ago (2weeks) that less than 7 hours of sleep felt like torture and I wanted to stab my eyes with a sleeping pill. Now for the sake of Jasper I go with out and I love it in a way.

This is the time of life that lack of sleep has more meaning and value than anything, because its for the little ones, Jasper and Zeke become more important than anything and little sacrifices like sleep do not seem as important. Especially when they are healthy.

Well its about that time again.

So I am supposed to be working right now, but having a hard time staying on task. I don’t even remmeber what I am distracted from…So it seems a great time to blog.

I looked at the stats on my last post, which I thought was very good, and I was depressed a little, I think it was viewed like 8 times. Lame, speaking of lame, when people used LMAO I used to think they meant, Lame-O.

For fathers day Jen got me some handkerchiefs. They have my initials, pretty awesome, I also bring around a note book with me, its a moleskine squared soft cover notebook. I have tried many different types of note apps on my iphone and this one seems the best so far, simple pen and paper. So I am bringing back some old school trends, which makes me like a hipster, with out dressing like I live in the 90s’.

I just done care that much about what I am wearing.

I read this really good article in the nyt about how we are all trying to sell each other on facebook, twitter, blogs what ever, and I thought, “I am trying sell myself, how vain, how insecure I must be” then I shrugged it off and a couple weeks later heard a story on nor about a girl who went offline for like 6 months and I thought, “she is crazy” but I kind of like the idea, however I could never do that, my work is based online, and I love the Internet. However sometimes I feel the Internet is like eating. Facebook is like candy bars, it will fill you up give you a sense of fullness but not good for all your meals, once a day is maybe too much. Twitters like a pretzel snack, low in fat, and almost too boring to eat enough of to fill you up. Blogs and the online papers are more like semi-non processed meals. Good to fill up on as long as you balance your meals. The Internet as a whole should never be your whole means of nutrition, you need good home cooked fresh food, like classic novels and nonfiction books, (i think comics may fit into the dessert slot) or long conversations and debates with live people.

You may not agree with this but I feel like it’s a good balance for me.

Classes Start again.

Well this is my 3rd semester back in school. I have only taken one class the last 2 semesters but, this term I am taking 2 classes. English, 1020 and an Upper div History Class. I am also going through a homeschool algebra course at home to help me get into a high math when I do my placement test.

I am really excited about doing more school. It feels so good to get closer towards a degree. I have been going back and forth about what my degree will be, it looks like right now I am going to be a physics major. It sometimes feels like it goes against my personality. I love to read, create, and work with my hands, I also love knowing how things work, and I love aviation. Physics explains how every part of an aircraft works, the machinery, engine, wings. However my love of literature somehow makes me think this will not work. When I looked at the classes for a literature or english degree, I was turned off. I think it must be how a musician feels if he has to play elevator music. It would be better to do all that on my own.

On the road

I started listening to, “on the road” on audiobook. I forgot how much I seem to like Kerouac. He is destructive and adventurous and his trips on the road remind me that not long ago we did not have all this distraction like blogs, email, ipads, Internet video games(I list these as my own distractions). I don’t things were better back then just different and maybe for some easier. What would I be like if I were born 60-70 years ago?

I probably wouldn’t have drove home from college classes, I would have walked or taken a bus, I obviously would not be typing this on an iPad, probably a pencil and paper. And it would be available to about 3 people not practically anyone with a Internet connection.

On a different similar note I went to a used book store and they were having a holiday sale. Wine and cheese and appetizers all free. And I just bought a couple books partially because I felt like I should, mostly because they were sweet books, 2/3 were Christmas presents. I got a George Elliot book for myself. I kinda felt out of place like I just crashed a rich persons party.

Jen was just sleeping on my arm. It’s 11:41pm and I am in that state of mind when I realize that the world has so much to offer, and i wonder do I have much to offer the world and then I notice blogs and think about my blog and wish my blog was good and people regularly read it, then I think I would have to regularly write in my blog for it to be read and then I think of the many times I have tried to start writing regularly and it doesn’t happen and I don’t want to do that again. So check back here In 3 months.

First day of fall semester

Back to school, feels like walking through a high school campus, so weird to be in school again.
But after this class only 86 more credits till I graduate thats good to think about.

I know I shouldn’t it’s hard not to look down on some of these kids, inexperienced in the world an all, except they are a little smarting than me they are hopefully graduating before they are 30.

Zekes birthday party

Tomorrow we celebrate zekes birthday, his birthday is so much more meaningful than the average birthday to me. One year ago life had just changed dramatically. I can’t believe what a difference this little human has made. I think about time, money, love and so many other things completely different now. Don’t ask me how because I could not articulate properly I’m sure.

This year I turn 27 which to me is no big deal, I now think about how this may feel to my parents. I know this sounds a little over dramatic, but if I can help keep zeke alive and healthy for 27 years I will feel like I really accomplished something, and then if he is as happy as I am, that would make me feel like I just won an award. I am sure over the life of this little man I will scar him with my short comings, but I hope that those things are over shadowed by the fun me and him will have and the love I can show him.

So happy belated birthday zeke.

Chess

My friend and and me played some awesome chess this weekend, mostly awesome because I didn’t lose and our skills were pretty even, both games ended with less than 3 pieces each on the board. It made me think about how much I love that type of interaction. Board games are one of those luxuries I feel like I normally don’t have time for anymore. Some days I wish I could have all my power knocked out (except for refrigeration) for a couple of days. I could be forced to unplug from the interweb and I could dedigitize my life for a moment (as I type this on my iPad) my dream is to one day go to the backcountry of Alaska with no Internet or phone for a month fish, play board games, read, take walks and slow down. I know I would not want that forever, I love my computer, my Internet, xbox, netflix all that but i would like to disengage for a while.
